The Winelands of the Western Cape in South Africa are a huge draw for national and international visitors alike, for the wine tasting certainly, but also for the spectacular beauty, rich history and gastronomic excellence.

Our Favourite Wine of the month

August 2009: Wine - The Sequillo White

This month we really went down the wine route less traveled and drove out to the Swartland region, one of our favourite wine routes, where innovation and authenticity characterise an area dominated by Shiraz and a collection of quality white blends.

The Swartland lies an hour North East of Cape Town, centered around the quirky but peaceful town of Riebeek Kasteel. From there we headed to the Sadie family vineyards and arguably South Africa’s best and most controversial winemaker, Eben Sadie. Famous for his unique philosophy and approach to winemaking his renowned Columella and Palladius wines have already achieved cult status. However we were keen to try his latest wine, The Sequillo - a white blend composed of Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne grapes.

We are glad to report we have found another of his gems and we cannot rave about it enough.

Unfortunately the vineyards are open for tasting by appointment only and just 5 or 6 times a year on a Saturday, so you do need to book. Alternatively just buy a bottle from Wine Concepts, the boutique wine shop, you will not be disappointed.
