Trips and Tours.
Depending on how much time you have during your stay in Cape Town, whether you wish to explore further afield or just stay close to the city - here are some of our favorite experiences that are each special in their very own way.
With a couple of hours to spare...
Cruising in Table Bay
Many people think the best views of Cape Town are from the top of Table Mountain and whilst we don’t disagree, we think looking back across the city from the ocean is just as spectacular. Some of our team recently spent half a day on a yacht, sailing up and down the coast and anchoring off Clifton beach for lunch. Read more...Shark Cage Diving, Gans Baai, Western Cape
On the coast two hours south-east of Cape Town is the small village of Gansbaai, famous as the shark cage diving capital of Africa. Here the waters are home to the largest concentration of Great White Sharks in the world, feasting on the seal colonies of near by Dyer Island. A great place to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning, the market is off the normal tourist path, but is a real Cape Town experience and we highly recommended it. Situated in the Old Biscuit Mill in an industrial part of the city which is now becoming increasingly trendy, the market has a bit of everything and a real buzz about it. This month some friends of ours over from Europe, said after a week of tourist attractions that they wanted to see some of the real Cape Town, so Richard our Managing Director took them on a guided tour of Khayelitsha, Cape Town's largest township. A lover of all things food, Mandi our head of Travel, decided to take this passion one step further last month, when she enrolled herself and unsuspecting husband Federico on a days cooking course in Franschhoek. Read more...Woodstock Farmers Market - Cape Town
Five minutes from the City Centre, located in the Old Biscuit Mill, this weekly Saturday market has become a hive of activity and the place to be seen hanging out on Saturday morning. Whether it's exotic food, organic vegetables and clothing to just about anything, it's well worth a couple of hours! Don't forget to wear your trendy shades!Stadium Tour - Cape Town
With the 2010 Soccer World Cup around the corner the building of a brand new stadium in the middle of the City has firmly divided the people of Cape Town. Whatever your opinion on the rights and wrongs, a guided tour of the stadium as it looks now, and will look on completion, gives a fascinating insight and really is worth the time.Sunset horse ride on Noordhoek Beach
Miles of sea and sand in front of you and the rugged mountains of Chapman's Peak behind, if you're feeling romantic then there is nothing better than galloping through the surf with the sun going down in the distance. Trust us - our two Directors fell in love doing this very thing!Walk along the Sea Point promenade after work.
If you want to capture the heart and essence of real Cape Town, take time out to work along the sea front and see the mass of humanity jogging, "pramming", walking, stumbling or sleeping along the way. There are people from every walk of life, literally doing their thing. We suggest you start at the Lighthouse in Mouille Point, walk to the open air pool in Sea Point and back.Buy fish at Kalk Bay Harbour
Enjoy purchasing fresh fish from the fishermen just back from sea, a real experience. Or if you don't have a kitchen, buy the fish and chips on the pier and watch the fish being sold.Half day..
Walk up Table Mountain Of course most people take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, but for the more adventurous there are a number of walking trails that take you to the top. The most popular is Platteklip Gorge that starts approximately 1 kilometre past the cable car station and takes up to two hours to the top. It's a steady climb to the top with stunning views and a sense of achievement when you reach the summit. You can then take the cable car back down. Other routes meander up from the Constantia Forest, but our favourite route to the top is Skeleton Gorge, which starts out from the back of Kirstenbosch Gardens. It's strenuous and not for the unhealthy or faint hearted.
Day trips...
Day trip to the Robertson Wine Valley, Western Cape
Lesser known of the Cape Wine lands (but not for long) the Robertson Wine Route is less than two hours from Cape Town and great for a day trip or overnight stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Why not try Springfield, Weltvrede wineries and we highly recommend... for a lunchstopDrive the Peninsula to Cape Point by Harley Davidson or Classic Car.
Call us at Travel Concepts if you would like to rent a motor bike or car with difference.Worth an overnight stay...
1 night - Paternoster, West Coast, Western Cape
A maximum two hour drive up the west coast from Cape Town, this tiny fishing village is characterized, by white washed cottages and a sense of tranquility and time gone by. Although now becoming a holiday home destination for Capetonians, it is ideal for a romantic night away, eating crayfish at simple beach side restaurants whilst watching the sun drop into the ocean.Hike the dolphin trail on the garden route
Hike the Tsitsikamma coast in luxury! This Month Mandi our Head of travel offers some feedback from our customers who recently explored one of the most beautiful areas of South Africa's famous Garden Route. "For two magical days we hiked the magnificent Tsitsikamma Coast with no heavy backpack, and spent three nights in comfort at different spots, not in a tent on the ground. We enjoyed stunning views of the rugged Tsitsikamma coastline spotting whales, dolphins and the famous sea otters during the day and then amazing sunsets at night. Both challenged and pampered, the trail covers a distance of 17 Km starting in the unrivalled beauty of the Tsitsikamma National Park at Storms River Mouth, and winds its way eastwards through natural fynbos and pristine indigenous forest, over rugged rocks at the waters edge, to end on the banks of the Sandrift River.
Our package included all meals, trained local hiking guides, a 4x4 drive through the old Storms River Pass and transportation of our luggage. It was brilliant in every respect ....the route, the weather, the guides, the accommodation and importantly the peace and relaxation.
