Indian Ocean

Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar

Close your eyes and think of a white beach with soft sand, framed by coconut trees swaying gently in the breeze. Lying just off the East coast of Southern Africa, these idyllic islands in the warm and tranquil Indian Ocean are usually described using adjectives like "heaven", "paradise" and "Eden-like", which seem to encapsulate best these stunning places of tropical bliss.

OUR INDIAN OCEAN ISLAND DESTINATIONS

Mauritius
Known first and foremost as an island paradise - Mauritius simply has it all, from affordable to extremely upmarket. Lying off the coast of south-eastern Africa the Republic of Mauritius includes the islands of St Brandon, Rodriques and the Agalega Islands. Different stretches of the gorgeous coastline are known for either secluded, luxurious and private beach cottages or boutique hotels with more activities than you could possibly ever try out. We have honeymooned and visited here and simply love it!

Seychelles
The Seychelles are situated north of Mauritius and consist of an archipelago of over 115 islands. The best-known islands are Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and Grand Soeur. Widely-known for their spectacular beauty, the islands of the Seychelles are largely free of resorts and main-stream hotel chains, with several elite lodges having opened recently. The pristine beaches, warm tropical air and crystal-clear waters are simply "postcard stuff". Snorkelling and scuba diving is of the best and most rewarding in Africa.

Madagascar
The island of Madagascar is the fourth-largest island in the world, a dense and overgrown jungle off the eastern coast of Mozambique. Madagascar is known for its exceptional fauna and flora with 5% of the world's animal and plant species occuring only here. It has become known as an ecotourism destination rather than a traditional Indian Ocean holiday location, but Madagascar does have lovely beaches, making it a delight for visitors seeking out unusual and off-the-beaten track locations. We think it is a hidden gem about to be discovered!

Seychelles

Once you arrive on Mahé Island in the Seychelles you don't want to leave again. Apart from the gorgeous scenery of lush vegetation, white beaches and coral reefs, there is charming architecture and shopping in the picturesque capital of Victoria.

Trou Aux Biche, Mauritius

"We love this resort for its never ending long white sandy beach, perfect for romantic walks on the beach. The chalet-styled accommodation is set in a huge garden overlooking the beach with coconut trees and lush grass. The wonderful resort swimming pool, range of watersports, varied meal options and evening music make this a choice for both honeymooners and families." says Mandi
